Progressive spectacle lenses, also called progressive addition lenses (PAL), are corrective lenses used in eyeglasses to correct presbyopia and other disorders of accommodation. Multi focal progressive lenses provides a continuous range of focal power between near and far distances. An alternative to bifocals, where lens prescriptions are segregated with a visible line or a pocket. Patients with presbyopia can now see distance, intermediate and near without having to switch around glasses.
What is Presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a condition associated with aging of the eye that results in progressively worsening ability to focus clearly on close objects. If you are over 40 and having difficulty with your vision close-up and at arm’s reach, you may be experiencing presbyopia. It’s a gradual change in the ability to focus up close, and a condition that affects almost everyone as they age no matter how good your vision was when you were younger.
What are the benefits of Progressive lenses?
Progressive lenses provide sharp vision and smooth transitions at any distance. You don't need to swap between your reading and regular glasses.
Vision with progressives can seem natural. If you switch from viewing something up close to something far away, you won't get a "jump" like you would with bifocals. This enhances your comfort with your lenses and is a safer option when doing things such as driving.
They look like regular glasses. Many people even put off getting multi-focal lenses because they don’t want to admit that they need them. Progressive lenses help this issue for some people because there is no visible line like bifocals.
